Sandy Beach is located on East Shore Road in Morris. The beach is operated by the Sandy Beach Commission which is comprised of five members from each of the towns of Litchfield and Morris. This Commission is a volunteer organization which depends on community members to help with beach operations.
The Commission’s primary mission is to provide “swim safe kids”, water safety instruction for children at minimal cost. It employs a Beach Manager, lifeguards and Certified Water Safety Instructors to provide a safe, protected environment for beach patrons. This past summer over two hundred fifty children, ages five through sixteen, were involved in our daily swim lessons. Many of our swimmers go forward to compete with area swim teams. Often our swimmers return to work as lifeguards at the beach. Parents and grandparents who learned to swim at Sandy Beach return with new generations of swimmers.
Sandy Beach offers water safety lessons, volleyball, basketball, lakeside access to boaters, changing rooms, picnic areas, a canoe launch, a snack shack and a beautiful sandy beach with lifeguard protected swimming.
The facilities are used throughout the week by both the Litchfield and Morris Parks and Recreation departments for summer camps. There are also many community activities held at Sandy Beach, including the Sandy Beach Triathlon, the Bantam Lake Ski Show, and visits by other visiting groups and summer camps for swimming and picnicking. A feature-length film, Summer Retreat, was produced at Sandy Beach.
Make a difference, volunteer today!
